Freight Fraud Prevention Hub: A Collective Industry Response Coming February 26

Freight fraud is not a siloed problem. It affects carriers, shippers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), brokers, platforms, and insurers alike, and it continues to grow more sophisticated.

The Freight Fraud Prevention Hub reflects NMFTA’s commitment to addressing this challenge collectively, not in isolation.

Drawing on expertise across cybersecurity, classification, carrier standards, and data analysis, the Hub reflects NMFTA’s broader mission to strengthen the integrity of the freight ecosystem. The Hub brings together practical guidance, red flag education, and evolving best practices designed to help the entire freight ecosystem detect and reduce fraud earlier.

SCAC Shield

Major Initiatives Launching February 26

On February 26, NMFTA launches a coordinated set of initiatives designed to strengthen identity assurance, simplify trust checks, and help the industry reduce freight fraud. Here’s what you need to know.

New ID Verification Requirements for Non-Class 8 Carriers

Beginning February 26, non-Class 8 carriers applying for or renewing a SCAC will complete identity verification as part of the process. This update binds a verified individual to each SCAC, raising the barrier against impersonation, double brokering, and fictitious pickups.

If you operate a box truck, cargo van, or another type of non-Class 8 vehicle, this change applies to you. To make preparation simple, we’ve released a new video, “Preparing for SCAC ID Verification for Non-Class 8 Carriers,” that walks through what to expect and how to complete the process smoothly.

Meet SCAC Verified: The Industry's Identity-Assured Trust Signal

SCAC Online has evolved. On February 26, we officially introduce SCAC Verified, the rebranded lookup experience that turns the industry’s universal carrier identifier into a clear, checkable trust signal.

Users can confirm SCAC status instantly through the web app or integrate status checks directly into internal systems via API. The result is a simple, status-only confirmation of identity verification at issuance or renewal—without exposing personal data.

For brokers, shippers, platforms, and insurers, this means one reliable check at tender or onboarding. For carriers, it protects your identity and reputation.

DSDC Full Truckload APIs Now Open for Public Review

The Digital Standards Development Council (DSDC) has released Version 1.1.0 of a few Full Truckload APIs for public review, including eBOL, In-Transit Visibility, and Invoice & Documentation. These API standards are designed to streamline data exchange, reduce manual processes, and create interoperability across shippers, carriers, 3PLs, and technology providers. Now is your opportunity to review, test, and help shape the future of FTL data standards.

Docket 2026-1 - Feedback

Feedback Needed: FCDC Docket 2026-1

Industry feedback is the backbone of National Motor Freight Classification® (NMFC) updates, ensuring classification standards remain relevant and effective. The Freight Classifications Development Classifications (FCDC) values your input as it helps identify areas for improvement and adaptation in response to evolving industry needs. We encourage all freight industry professionals to review Docket 2026-1 and provide feedback.

Feedback must be submitted via email, mail or form must be received by the FCDC no later than 5:00 pm ET, Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

FCDC

Two New Members Appointed to FCDC

NMFTA’s bylaws authorize Executive Director Debbie Sparks to appoint members to the Freight Classification Development Committee (FCDC). Following a recent vacancy, NMFTA appointed Ashley Genarelli and Victor Mata, expanding the Committee from three to four members to strengthen its expertise and plan thoughtfully for the future. While the bylaws require a minimum of three members, a four-member structure allows for broader perspectives and added flexibility.

Ashley brings extensive institutional knowledge as one of NMFTA’s most tenured classification analysts, with experience in both classification and interpretations. Victor contributes valuable real-world insight through his hands-on freight experience, further diversifying the Committee’s expertise.

A majority vote of the FCDC members will govern the action taken on a proposal. In the event of a tie vote, the proposal will be approved. The FCDC must act on each proposal and must provide notice on the NMFTA website at https://nmfta.org/public-docket-files/
no later than ten (10) business days after the public meeting.
